Google’s Keyword tool Dead? Not Hardly – it’s New and Improved For SEO!

There were a ton of articles written last year about how Google’s keyword tool was being removed from adwords and how this was another assault by Google by SEO. Many posts read something to the effect of death of the adwords Keyword tool, or the like.

Some action by Google in recent years have made search engine optimization more challenging for SEO Professionals. For Example, we used to get great keywords data from google analytics on individual keyword searches. So, for example for a car dealing shop, with analytics installed on your site, you could see exactly how people found your site via google search. For example did they type “auto detailers in Kansas” or “Kansas city car detailing” or simply a gernatic term like “car detailing shop”. We used to able to get this kind of highly specific data from Google analytics. Since google has moved to secure search, they no longer pass keyword data to analytics, so now the keyword column simply read “(not provided)” this was in fact a blow to SEO, but it’s not the casa for the keywords planner.

Flash forward into this new year and we know that keyword tool 2.0 is the real deal. The new tool, dubbed “Keyword planner” is just as good as the old keyword tool, if not better. The old tool was bulky and cumbersome and often returned to many search terms, even when you selected “closely related terms.”
The new keyword planner does a much better job then its predecessor in terms of grouping large lists of keyword matches. This makes is much easier to compile master list of keywords since you can select group of related keywords in a custom list of groups – rather than one by one. The new tool also provided estimate cost-per-click data which gives fantastic insight as to the actual level  of competitiveness for a given keyword. For a  practical example of a keyword grouping in the new keyword planner, here is a snapshot of a generic term for auto detailing.

As you can see, the new tool enables you to group and view highly relevant keyword set that makes the job of an internet marketer easier. In fact, it’s now possible to pull up this data quickly and easily on prospective client meeting and even in presentation. When small business owner see this data in an easy to read format, they can quickly AND EAASILY grasp how important keyword research is for SEO-friendly web design and search engine optimization.
